Introducing the "What is Performance Studies?" Series

I've decided to inaugurate a new "series" here at brooklynboyblues, called "what is performance studies?" The "what is performance studies?" series is intended as an online resource for scholars, popular audiences, and newcomers to the field. The series will highlights various (and sometimes competing) definitions of "performance" and showcase the work of recent performance studies alumni at New York University and Northwestern University (the nation's leading performance studies departments), as well as current graduate students pursuing doctorates in the field. The series will also function as an online syllabus. A special emphasis is placed on performance studies approaches to other area-studies disciplines such as African Diaspora Studies, Queer Studies, Ethnic Studies and American Studies.

Look for a week chock-full of posts!

smart way to let people in on the field, and crystallize some prelims/qualifying thinking for yourself. good luck by the way, one black scholar "in the life" to another. i was in your shoes this time last year, and prelims/qualifying was a watershed moment of growth for me. hope all goes well for you!

of course, i could "blame" you for wanting to critically engage performance theory for graduate studies...and i've copied and emailed myself every book list you've posted...and i'll continue...thanks dude...

i'm *this much closer* to making a decision...lol
