Whats the Tea?

Today E. Patrick Johnson, one of my dearest scholarly mentors, notified me that he'll again be on the east coast next week for a special performance at Princeton University. If you'll recall, I mentioned that Patrick performed at Yale at the end of last month, but unfortunately I couldn't make that event. Looks as though i'm in luck this time though.

For those of you unfamilar with his work, E. Patrick Johnson is the Chair of the department of performance studies at Northwestern University and also an Associate Professor in the department of African American Studies. His first book Appropriating Blackness: Performance and the Politics of Authencity was published back in 2003 and his latest edited collection Black Queer Studies: A Critical Introduction was published last year.

Patrick's performance at Princeton is entitled "Sweet Tea", which is a sort of artistic prolegomenon of his eagerly awaited book Sweet Tea: An Oral History of Black Gay Men in the South (to be published this summer). The event will take place on Tuesday, March 13, 7:30 pm Frist Theatre on Princeton's campus.

See you there.
