Underground Artist Spotlight: Steph Jones

Perhaps it’s his care-free, California hippie sound (evident in his infectiously memorable demo-single “Mr. Ordinary”), his vocal resonance with Stevie Wonder in its silky upper-register, or his subtle physical resemblance to both Maxwell and Lenny Kravitz---Steph Jones seems to have the complete package.
I first discovered Jones on myspace, where he’s quickly garnered a somewhat cult-like following. Though he isn’t signed to a major record label just yet, already he’s receiving a “buzz” among certain sub-sets of the indie pop market. And of course the fact that he’s a Ford model doesn’t help the sex-appeal factor either.
But there's much more than muscle-boy beauty here, Jones takes off where Raphael Sadiq and Musiq left off, ushering in a new R & B sound that is as "indie" as it is "soul".
