Cornel West drops a new rap album...no, seriously.
Hip Hop has a new "West" in town and his name aint Kanye. Dr. Cornel West, the oh-so-famous Harvard-to-Princeton philospher, has just dropped a new rap album.Entitled "Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations " the album brings together the voices of some of hip hop's most progressive artists, including Talib Kweli, KRS-1, M1 of Dead Prez, Killer Mike, Rhymefest, Neo Abyss, Malik Yusef as well as musical giants, Prince, the late Gerald LeVert, David Hollister, and Chuckii Booker. Also, tracks on the CD include a riveting, scored-to-music debate on the many issues surrounding the use of the "N-word," featuring Dr. West and radio, television and literary personalities Tavis Smiley and Dr. Michael Eric Dyson.
Now those of you who are members of academia's black intelligentsia are already aware that this is actually not Dr. West's first CD. His first experimental album, Sketches of My Culture was released back in 2001. Harvard University president Lawrence Summers disapproved of the CD, and the dispute prompted West to leave Harvard's African American Studies program and head back to Princeton.
