ballroom rockstar/awards ball weekend

The Gamma Boys: Melvin, Frank, and Ruben
Chillin at the New York City Awards Ball last night, the ballroom's only official annual awards event
******

Ok, I lied. I'm still not ready to write a new blog-post just yet. But here's a very quick run-down of this weekend:

I'm in the middle of finals. For the past three nights, I've spent the night at Columbia's library (I figured since i did the same thing last semester at NYU, i oughta switch-it-up this time, eh?)

But last night I did take a break to go the much anticipated New York City Awards Ball (the equivalent of "The Oscars" in the ballroom scene) with my two notorious frat brothers, Melvin and Ruben.

The ball was a nice relaxer; I was happy to be nominated for Executive Realness of the Year (the title deservingly went to my buddy Rucka Revlon, congratulations!). Ruben had a clean sweep though, winning Sexiest Butch Queen of the Year; Models Magazine Face of the Year, and Butch Queen of the Year. Punk. Lol. No, we are all very proud of him. I'll give a run down of the event later with lots of pictures.

On Saturday Ballroom Rockstar "Magazine" hosted the "Ballroom Crystal Awards Luncheon", an event honoring the best and brightest in the ballroom scene this year. Though I was also one of the official nominees here for "Best Achievement in Executive Realness", I didnt go. Neither did Ruben. Apparently we werent the only ones. From what I heard there was great food and a great location, but the attendance was very poor.

Tomorrow, I am giving a talk at a symposium for the Institute of Fine Arts on 78th and Madison. The event is free and open to the "public", though it'll mostly be attended by Art Historians and other academics. I'll be discussing the relationship between Frantz Fanon, visual culture, and representations of black masculinity in contemporary art.

This Saturday im flying to Atlanta for Stasha and Tempress Mugler's ball and the National Mizrahi house meeting. Looking very forward to it.
