Remembering Kaream James

Last week I was stunned to hear about the sudden death of Kaream James, a former friend of mine. Kaream and I met in the summer of 2004 during my year of graduate school. I will always remember his beautiful eyes, gorgeous smile, and warm personality. Our time together was much too short (we sort of fell out in 2004 and hadn’t spoken to each other much since then) but I’ll cherish our memories. May he truly rest in peace. I'm deeply saddened to hear this news.

JAMES, KAREAM RUDOLPH, 33 - went home to God, in the Bronx, NY on May 10, 2008. Kaream was born February 13, 1975, in Atlantic City. He was educated in the Atlantic City School System and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1994. He attended Shaw University and Morgan State University where he received a BS in Accounting. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psai Fraternity, Inc. He was pursuing a degree in fashion at New York's Berkley College. He was employed by the New York Housing Authority as an auditor. He is survived by: parents, Janie James of Atlantic City and Rudolph Felton of Clearwater, FL; special father, Andre Byrd; brothers, Jaran James (Patti) of Sicklerville, Randy Nellom; nephew, Jaran Thomas Franklin James; nieces, Jordan and Jaia James; aunts, Barbara, Ella, Louvenia, Joyce and Betty; uncles, Malik and Bazil; great uncle Floyd James (Mary) all of Atlantic City, friends Natalie Edwards; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2008, Greenidge Funeral Home, 301 Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10 a.m.

SORRY 2 HEAR ABOUT YOUR FRIEND...NICE ENTRY ABOUT HIM...KINDA WISH I KNEW HIM

Kaream James. After many years of online humor and whimsical commentary on New Yorkers and people of color in general, seeing him all the time at the gym at NYSC on 125th, and playing phone tag and texting ever so often, I was the better for knowing him. For all the conversations and communications, I will never forget.

Wow...This news blows my mind. Kaream and I were roommates once at Morgan State. He was a good guy, and I'm sure he will be missed.
