"Weaving the World: The Challenge of Ethnography."


NYU's Departments of Performance Studies and Anthropology are welcoming acclaimed anthroplogist Paul Stoller, who will be giving a lecture on "Weaving the World: The Challenge of Ethnography." The event will be held on Tuesday, April 1st at 7pm in the Department of Performance Studies, 721 Broadway, 6th floor studio.



Paul Stoller is Professor of Anthropology at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. For more than 30 years has conducted ethnographic research among West African peoples in the Republic of Niger and in New York City. The recipient of many fellowships and research grants, his long term research in Niger and North American has resulted in the publication of numerous scholarly articles as well as 10 books, including three ethnographies, two memoirs, a biography, two collections of scholarly essays and two novels. In 2002, Stoller's book, Money Has No Smell: The Africanization of New York City won the American Anthropological Association's Robert B Textor Prize in 2002. He is currently conducting research on family life among West African immigrants in New York City. His new book, The Power of the Between: An Anthropological Memoir will be published in November 2008 by The University of Chicago Press.
