Frank's Critical "Best Actress" pick of 2007

Halle Berry? Uhm. No.

The best performance by a female actor in 2007 is unquestionably, undeniably and unequivocally the stunning Marion Cotillard in the brilliant film La Vie en Rose.

Rose tells the story of the legendary French Parisian singer Edith Piaf, who was sort of a hybrid amalgamation of Billie Holiday, Evita, and Judy Garland, but spunkier. Steven Holden of the New York Times has called Cotillard's performance "the most astonishing immersion of one performer into the body and soul of another [he's ever] encountered in a film."

Yes, its that good. From the film's first frame, Cotillard is a star.

Watch the trailer here. The film truly provides a master class in exceptional dramatic acting.

You can catch the film at the Angelika Film Center in New York right on the border of Soho and the West Village. Considering the unanimous critical praise for Cotillard (praise that is far superior than that of the so-called early "Oscar front runner" Angelina Jolie) I'll go out on a limb and say Cotillard is at least a "sure thing" for a Best Actress nod.

I saw this on LOGO - it was actually pretty good.

I Would actually Appreciate You taking Me to see this Film. *Wink*

Im a Movie/Cinema Buff, so I TRY to see EVERY Oscar-Worthy Film/Performance, EVERY YEAR.

Give Me an excuse to Come to New York.

You MIGHT want to hold off on that:

Cate Blanchett "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"

Nicole Kidman: Margot At The Wedding (not as funny as Baumbach's "The Squid and The Whale", but she's GREAT at playing insecure, fucked up, brilliant, and very neurotic AND severely intelligent women)

Ellen Page: Juno

Julie Christie: Away From Her

Laura Linney: The Savages

Tang Wei: Lust, Caution

Keri Russell: Waitress

Halle Berry: Things We Lost In The Fire

I'm just saying...I love her and hope she will be nominated, but not without a fight from any of the women above...
