"Myspace" Friend Requests.........

I had a revelation this morning: of the 662 friends I have on "myspace.com", I only actually know about 50% of them.

You see, here's the thing: I never "deny" a friend request. I realize that sometimes people are just hitting you up because they admire you, they've heard about you, want to get to know you, etc. Thus I just take the diplomatic way out and "approve" the message, wait to see if the person actually attempts to contact me, then eventually just "clean house" and delete all the people i really dont know.

But can I be frank for a minute? At this point, im convinced that all new "friend requests" on myspace mean one of the following 7 things:

1. I know you and you are my friend.
2. I used to know you, havent seen you in a while, but now I want to catch up.
3. I want to have.
4. I dont know you, I dont want to have necessarily, but I think you're sexy.
5. I know you, we're not friends, but guess what: I always wanted to have.
6. I dont know you, nor do really I care to, but your profile was "private" and I was nosey.
7. You may or may not know me, we're not really close, but you're a popular face on "myspace" so having you in my "topfriends" makes me look fab.

Did I miss any?

On that note, visit me on myspace at www.myspace.com/frankleonroberts

not on myspace but still a good cackle all the same.... i wonder which number I would be if I was... lol

Hey Frank:

Good post. I dont know--I've always been picking when approving or denying someone who wants to link to my myspace page.

For me, I tend to be wary of folks who send friend request that have like friend lists that border on several thousand or more: you KNOW that's more for popularity reasons than actually being interested in your page or who you are. I do have a few of those folk on my list..but then again, I probably eithe rknew them before myspace or linked to them "before they were famous"..go figure.

Most of the people on my list are friends I have wanted to keep in contact but lost touch over the years, people i already know, and people i find interesting for some reason or another.

Myspace is interesting indeed...

That's the exact reason I don't even bother getting an account with myspace. There's too many ppl on there and I don't have the time nor inclination to entertain folk. Facebook and Downelink do quite enough for my internet socializing. Just my 2 pennies.

:amel:

Nice breakdown.

I find it really interesting that someone would have thousands of friends but then again that's the wonders of the internet. It connects people. I don't have a negative or positive opinion on the subject. I just find it interesting.
