Aestheticizing the "dysfunctional" : The New York Times on Kalup Linzy

Once again Kalup Linzy, my good buddy and fellow Brooklynite has caught The New York Times' attention. This weekend in the arts and leisure section, the Times warmly described the Guggenheim recipient's work as a "serial soap opera around a dysfunctional African-American family."

Don't you just love it? Remember to check out "Melody Set Me Free" (written, produced, and directed by Kalup) co-starring drag legend Harmonica Sunbeam, Tony nominee Justin Bond, Sahara Davenport, Carmon Hammons and little old' me, on view until February 17, 2008 at the Whitney Museum of American Art (in the exhibition entitled "Television Delivers People").

Go see it and tell us what you think. Ok?

Congrats Kalup on the continued success!
