Making Condoms "Trendy"---your thoughts?

Everyone's talking about the Department of Health's brand new line of funky "New York City Condoms" (pictured at left). Even though the scholar in me wants to problematize how these new condoms bring together aesthetics, fashion, sex, and consumption, I'll just shut up for now and say that I still think they're pretty dam cool. I've seem them, and they look a tourist object, almost like a key chain.

I guess pretty soon folks will be asking each other "Hey, where'd you get your condoms from?" as if they were referring to sneakers or jeans. Find out where you can find one of these trendy little "suckers" by clicking here.

What do you all think about this? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. What does it mean when the concept of "Slaves for Fashion" transfers over to the HIV/AIDS prevention industry?

i wont comment to how u have already seen the NYer condoms... but I will say it is unfortunate that they are one size fit all.

Redd, the only problem that a brotha would have a condom is it being to BIG. Believe me, they stretch for the bigger brothas.

But on subject, I think that this is a great idea. The availability of condoms will probably influence more people to use them.

I am suspicious about this condom, notice it is only being marketed toward gays. Is this a means of population control? Are these condoms non-defective? Let us not forget what happened in India.
