gotta go, gotta leave.

see you later, not goodbye...

all good things usually come to a end. but all "endings" should not necessarily be dreaded. instead of imagining "endings" as finishing-points (finales) it is sometimes more productive to thing of them as breaks, ruptures, or splits: pauses.
*
the time has come for me to "pause" this blog. In the seven and a half month since i've been blogging as "brooklynboyblues", i've shared lots of exciting, frustrating, and (even) erotic moments.
*
however, as my academic responsibilities heat up in my second year a fulltime doctoral student in cultural studies at NYU, it's almost impossible for me to blog as frequently or eloquently as I have in the past. dont be surprised if from now on you see me posting comments under other people's blogs instead of actually producing new blog topics of my own.
*
i'll continue to post events, gossip, and various political and theoretical ruminations as I see fit, but for right now i'm on break. consider this an unspecified sabbatical leave: maybe a week, maybe a year. to be honest, i'm not sure. i wont necessarily stop blogging, i just plan on doing it much less frequently. but when I do, hopefully it will keep you intrigued.
*
For instance, my next project: 50 MOST BEAUTIFUL BLACK GAY NEW YORKERS. this project---a rift on New Yorker magazines' infamous annual "50 Most Beautiful New Yorkers" issue-- will be a colloborative project with another popular & saavy black gay blogger (who will remain unnamed right now) and one of the many new black gay publications that have sprouted up in the past six months. It should be hot. I'm looking forward.
*
But other than this, a brother needs a break.
*
As i've stated many times now, i've become terribly unamused with new york city black/gay/life. Though i havent made it official to my department yet, i might relocate in the next academic year from New York/NYU to Brown, Berkeley, Northwestern or Stanford. Interestingly, these are basically the same institutions that I turned down a year ago in order to stay in New York. Now I cant wait to leave. It's funny how one year can change your perspective so much. I need to either "go west" or "go New England." I'll also consider taking a full year off from academia and live in London or Paris if i'm able to obtain gainful (and emotionally fullfilling) employment in either city. Any leads (by now you all know the kind of academic, political, and personal work that interests me) are appreciated and encouraged.
*
in the meantime, feel free to email me about any and everything. My email address is simply frankroberts@nyu.edu. I've appreciated the tons of emails that I gotten from people all over the world that who've visited this blog and enjoyed what i've had to say. Keep them coming. One of the truly beautiful things about being a doctoral student is that you get paid to read, write, and think for a living. No nagging nine-to-five responsibilities. Even though you have incredibly demanding reading and writing responsibilities, you still are blessed with lots of free time. Thus, I'm only in class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the rest of the week technically I'm free. My point? Lunch dates are always a possibility.
*
Now go ahead and peruse through the archives of "brooklynboyblues"---experience the magic you've help me create over the past few months. Surely you're bound to come across some (un)tasteful, delicious and nostalgic moments.

-one love

damn...so everyone's leaving blogger...

good luck with everything...

i'll miss ya frank..

re leaving NYU for otehr pastures its funny cause I been thinking 'bout peacing out to NYC too.

To be missed in theory.

I definately understand your POV, I am finding myself in the same vein, I just don't think people are listening to what I have tp say.

But, you have been an inspiration to me. I accepted my new position at school to accomplish what I knew I could do by watching you.

We are cool and that means that LUNCH is definately in order, even if I do have to take a 3 hr train ride to get some grub.

You are an amazing young man and I have learned a lot by your personal character.

This is not Goodbye, this is Bon Chance to endless possibilities.

As always in Parting,

I came in Peace and in Peace I leave.

What is going on? Is a storm coming to blogdom or something cause everyone is packing up shop... First 'Smillingonthedl'... then 'rockaonline'... and now you?

Et Tu Frank? Et Tu?

How will we peek into the NY scene without all your pictures and interesting commentary?

Who is going to make me bust out my dictionary to comprehend their philosophical rants now?

BOOOOOOOO to thee I say! ;-)

On the real though, do what you gotta do bruh. I am confident that whatever you choose to do, it will be outstanding.

Good luck!

LARRY LYONS TOO?

My links are becoming extinct... what the hell...

I am sort of a lurker when it comes to the many blogs that populate the internet. I must say that as a medical student, I find (found) it refreshing to see someone else who is intent on achieving excellence. Medical school life in the midwest is a far cry from the NYC and seeing NYC through your eyes has provided such insight. I wish you luck in your future endeavors. Maybe our paths will cross. (I want to do residency at NYU, Columbia, Cornell) If not, stay blessed.

be well. the best is yet to come!

I guess you've proven one more time that you're Robin to Larry's Batman. Get an original thought...

Well we know that you must go you have to do you but please do not disappear i like reading you. I guess I am gonna have to blow your cell phone up. do not worry i have sprint too so its free. LOL love you man

oooh i don't blame you for taking a pause from blogging. do your thing. i'm sure whatever you get your hands into, it will be a success. start a new trend or something. you've been a great leader within this whole blog universe. you got me started back up again so i appreciate you for that. continue to be that leader and others will follow. trust that!

why have you thought about leaving NYC?

i love your blog. my favorite post: the review of mariah carey's emancipation cd.

best wishes!

If you must go then at least it is for a good reason...

NO, NO... please dont go

Justin

Rock on with your bad self. Your insights over the last little while I've been reading your blog have been excellent, and I for one don't think you can just vanish. I look forward to reading you again, here or elsewhere.

In the mean time, I'm blaming it on the new accent aigu. Damn French.

TLO

Frank, I wish you the best on your break, and if you can pop in during your hiatus to post now and then, I'll definitely be looking forward to it! Take care and best wishes with your studies!

damn sorry to here that ... good to see you still have posts after this one though
