RAGS TO RICHES V: THE FINALE
HOSTED BY MARCO AND DARRYL HERRERA
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2007

All photos by Frank Leon Roberts

Last year right around this time, we were getting ready for Rags to Riches IV (view those photos here). Well Rags to Riches V: The Finale was a success. It ended a little "earlier" (uh, 6:38 am) than expected, but all in all everyone seemed satisfied. This was a great fieldwork experience for me, you know i've been thinking a lot about my dissertation lately (more on that later). Special thanks to Marco & Darryl Herrera, Flavalife, and Baby Chanel.

This is the last set of pictures that i'll be posting on this blog without having a watermark attached to them. Myspace.com is starting to look like my personal photo-album, it seems like i've taken just about everyone's profile pic! It's all good, that's what being a critical-ball-walking-guerilla-anthropologist-performance-theorist-documentary-photographer is all about, right? Indeed.

With that said.....

As aslways you always take the best shots.

Frank, you seem like a busy fella, but I have some questions about this event and others like it. I'm struggling to define, describe and truly understand this competition "scene" since it's not part of my cultural background... When you have some time, would you email me?
